Maybe I Should Consider a Second-Hand Dress?

Second-Hand Beauty

When it comes to your special day, you honestly want everything to run smoothly and perfectly but there are so many steps to making sure that happens. One of the biggest factors that makes or breaks a wedding is – the dress. Do you want to purchase a brand new one and create your own memories or have you considered a second hand dress? A second hand dress can either be a dress that has been passed down through the family as part of a tradition or it can simply be a dress that was used and worn in another wedding – from either a friend or a shop. Second hand, doesn’t be anything other than it was worn before and is not brand new. While some people may not be okay with the idea, there is nothing wrong with wanting to do so.

Where to Find One

There are many bridal expos and bridal boutiques that have tons of beautiful, name brand, dresses that have been given to the shop for other women to enjoy. Let’s face it – nine times out of ten, if you do not have plans for your wedding dress after the big event – you will find it in your closet, years later taking up space! Why not allow someone close to you or another woman get to enjoy her special day in the gown? You may even find some amazing vintage dresses in a second hand shop that you wouldn’t have originally considered.

Many people get wrapped up in what society’s image has been of what the wedding look and feel should be – this is your special day…do as you please and don’t ever hesitate to look through a second hand shop or speak to family members about their older dresses.

Get Inspired by Kimye

The big wedding news this week is the nuptials of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The couple finally tied the knot at a lavish ceremony in Italy. It followed an equally luxurious rehearsal dinner at Versaille.

While the over-the-top wedding might not be within your budget, there is plenty you can use for your Connecticut wedding. Here are a few things that can be used to inspire you:

Flowers: One of the stand-out elements of the ceremony was the 20-foot wall of flowers they had constructed as a backdrop. The combination of white roses and peonies is a classic wedding choice and perfect for your big day, too.

Dresses: Kim had a wardrobe change during the reception, offering her the chance to show off another designer dress. For your wedding, having a reception gown can allow you to change into something that is better for dancing the night away.

Maids: Kim’s bridesmaids, her sisters, were all dressed in white. This is a huge trend and one that gives a clean, elegant style to the wedding party. Look for a plain white dress style for your maids that offsets the glamor of your wedding gown.

Wedding Dress Inspiration from New York Bridal Week

It’s April and that means that all the biggest wedding dress designers have been showing their latest gowns in New York. With the runway shows now over, it’s the perfect time to have a look at the big trends for 2015

Light and Delicate

When Vera Wang described her spring 2015 collection as being inspired by the “lightnes of being, delicate and discipline, sensual and seductive,” she could have been speaking for a number of designers. Light and delicate styles were all over the runways, with billowy tulle layers, soft takes on mermaid silhouettes, and lace details being key elements to look for.

Soft Shades

Rather than going bold with color, designers such as Monique Lhuillier opted to include very pale pastels in their collections. This trend showed the slightest hint of color, giving the look of a shaded off-white rather than a fully noticeable color.

Boho Casual

For causal weddings, the 2015 trend is going to be boho. With the feel of 1970s flower power, these gowns are perfect for a music festival theme wedding. These flowing gowns, seen in the Oscar de la Renta show, look feminine and comfortable, and would be the ideal choice for a beach wedding.

Were you watching the runways? Are you inspired by this year’s bridal designs?

If you’re planning your Connecticut wedding, you can find out all about the latest trends and meet the area’s best wedding vendors at any of our upcoming bridal shows!

Oscar Style Inspiration

Last night’s Oscars were full of style inspiration for your Connecticut wedding. Many of the gowns seemed like they could easily switch from red carpet to a wedding with almost no changes.

One of the best gowns was Jennifer Carpenter’s Dior Couture gown. The Best Actress winner wore a pale pink and white dress with a gorgeous layered look. It had a long fitted bodice that went softly into a mermaid-style skirt.

Another bridal-ready outfit was Amy Adams’ Oscar de la Renta gown. With a pale blue tone, the full, feathery skirt and sparkling bodice would be perfect for a spring or summer bride.

There were also plenty of dresses that would be great for the bridal party. With lots of red dresses on show, it might be the big color trend for the end of 2013.

Whether you loved Jennifer Carpenter’s dress or want something more unconventional, you’re certain to find plenty of bridal inspiration at our wedding shows. They include everything a Connecticut bride needs to plan her big day.
